A business visitor (JEP)

Today 6th class welcomed Mr. Dermot Carberry to the classroom. Dermot is a very successful business man. He advised the class on the skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur, he shared his experiences and achievements and gave invaluable advice on our JEP project 'A Ballinora Greeting'
The class had the opportunity to ask Dermot questions and Dermot provided great knowledge and experience and dealt with every question so professionally. A Huge thank you to Dermot for taking time out of his busy schedule.
We now look forward to carrying out critical market research for our project and this will help us to plan for the setting up of our business in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!!!!

Dragons Den (JEP)

On Thursday 14th January we welcomed three business visitors to our class to assist with our JEP programme. They had an extremely tough job to do as they had to choose the final idea going forward for our JEP.
5 groups presented their product idea to the Dragons and huge credit must go to each and every individual child who spoke and presented so passionately about their idea. Huge effort was put in and it didn't go unnoticed by our Dragons. The expertise and feedback they gave to the groups was invaluable.
The final idea was decided upon and 'A Ballinora Greeting' was chosen.
So now the hard work begins in putting this idea into action and making it a successful greeting card business. A huge thank you to our Dragons and to Mrs. Coleman for assisting us.

Carol singing in Marymount.

The students of 6th class visited Marymount today. The staff gave us a very warm welcome and the students sang some of our favourite Christmas carols beautifully to patients, staff and parents. What a wonderful and special occasion.

Debating

The 6th class pupils have been working hard on their debating skills. They have completed two debates to date. Their first motion was

'iPads should replace all school books'. Both proposing and opposing teams argued some extremely valid points. Their second motion was 'pocket money should be earned and not just received'. It's fantastic to see such growth in each pupil. Debating enhances oral language, confidence in public speaking, voice projection and the ability to persuade and these skills are improving greatly even after just two debates.
Great work everyone.
